Q. 사용하는 피아노의 모델을 알려주세요.

A. 현재 사용하고 있는 모델은 Roland RD-2000입니다. 낙원상가에서 여러 제품을 살펴보고 앞으로 하고 싶은 음악에도 두루 사용할 수 있고 터치감과 음색이 가장 취향이었던 모델로 구매했습니다. 이전에는 Kurzweil SP4-8과 Kurzweil Mark-10을 사용했는데, 특히 Kurzweil Mark-10은 제가 직접 수리해가며 15년을 썼던 정든 모델이라 가끔 그리워요. 녹음할 때는 VST를 사용하고 있기 때문에 음색을 이유로 같은 모델을 고려하고 계신다면 추천해드리지 않습니다. VST는 Alicia’s Keys와 Garritan Abbey Road Studios CFX Concert Grand를 주로 사용하고 있고, 곡에 따라 신스나 로직 내장 악기와 섞어서 녹음하고 있습니다. 채널에는 제대로 등장한 적이 없지만 ‘마리오네트’라는 이름을 가진 ――의도대로 움직여달라고 붙여준 이름이었는데 도리어 조종당하고 있어요―― 사랑스러운 야마하 그랜드 피아노도 함께 지내고 있어요.

 

Q. What piano model are you using?

A. The one that I’m using now is Roland RD-2000. I picked it myself after looking around Nakwon Instrument Arcade and it was the one that suited both my purpose of use and preferences on the tone and the touch of the keys. I used to use Kurzweil SP4-8 and Kurzweil Mark-10. For the Mark-10 model, I used it for 15 years (I even repaired it myself.) so sometimes I do miss using it. Since I use VST when recording, I do not recommend choosing the same models as mine if you are interested in them because of how they sound. For VSTs, I mainly use Alicia’s Keys and Garritan Abbey Road Studios CFX Concert Grand. I sometimes mix synths or virtual instruments within Logic depending on the occasion. Although it was not introduced properly from my channel, I also have precious Yamaha grand piano named Marionette. (I named it hoping that it would play as I want it to be but ironically it is always me being played haha).

 

 

Q. 장비와 소프트웨어는 뭘 쓰시나요?

A. 지금은 맥북 프로 15인치 모델로 Logic Pro를 이용해서 녹음하고 있고, 영상 편집은 Final Cut으로 하고 있어요. 작년까지는 데스크탑에 Cubase Pro와 Vegas를 사용했습니다. 오디오 인터페이스는 Yamaha AG06을 쓰고 있는데 작업용이라기보다는 연결해야 하는 전자제품(게임기)가 많아서 믹서로 구매한거라 조만간 더 좋은 거로 바꾸고 싶네요. 추천하시는 모델이 있으면 살짝 알려주세요 🙂 ‘레이나의 피아노 노트’ 출간 작업 전까지는 오디오 인터페이스도 없이 그냥 노트북에 건반만 사용해서 녹음했어요. 저는 다른 목표가 생겨서 하나씩 바꿔가고 있긴 하지만 피아노 연주를 녹음하고 싶은 거라면 컴퓨터와 건반만 있으면 될 것 같아요. 카메라는 Panasonic GX85를 쓰고 있어요. GF7과 갤럭시 노트, 아이폰으로 찍은 영상도 있습니다. 조명은 따로 쓰지 않고, 책상 위 천장에 박힌 매입등의 빛으로 촬영해서 영상편집 프로그램으로 밝기를 조절하고 있어요.

 

Q. What tools and softwares do you use?

A. My main tool would be a 15-inch MacBook Pro where I record with Logic Pro and edit with Final Cut. I used to use Cubase Pro and Vegas until last year. I’m currently using Yamaha AG06 for audio interface but it was originally for connecting various eletronics (video game consoles lol) as a mixer, so I’m considering of getting a new one. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. 🙂 Before I started working on Reynah’s Piano Note, I only worked with just a keyboard and a laptop. I’ve been changing things around for other reasons but if recording piano music is what you want, then those two might be enough for you. I normally use Panasonic GX85 as my main camera, but there are some videos where I used GF7, Galaxy Note, or iPhone. I don’t use any extra lightings other than the downlight above my desk. The brightness of the video is usually set during the editing process.

 

 

Q. 신청곡은 받으시나요?

A. 죄송하게도 신청곡은 받지 않고 있습니다. 신청곡의 수는 많은데 제가 연주할 수 있는 곡은 한정되어 있으니 해드릴 수 없는 경우가 대부분이라 그게 너무 죄송해요. 그리고 자주 들어서 익숙한 곡이 아니면 결과물이 항상 마음에 안 들더라고요… 치려면 칠 수야 있겠지만, 제가 그 곡에 애정을 가지고 어떻게 치면 좋을지 고민도 해보고 스스로 납득할 수 있는 연주를 해야 듣는 분에게도 곡의 느낌이 제대로 전해지지 않을까 생각해요. 제 능력 안에서 조금이나마 부끄럽지 않은 연주를 하고 싶어요. 이해해주시면 감사하겠습니다.

 

Q. Do you take song requests?

A. I am sorry but I am currently not taking any requests. There are just so many requests when I can only do a handful of them. Also, I find myself not satisfied with the work if I am not familiar enough with the piece. I believe both affection and enough time to make the effort are required for me to do a cover in order to show enough respect the original song deserves. I only want to share works that I don’t have to be ashamed of. I hope you understand.

 

 

Q. 악보는 없나요? 보내주실 수 있나요?

악보는 홈페이지의 SHEETS 메뉴를 참고해주세요. 저작권 문제로 책에만 실린 곡도 있습니다. SHEETS 메뉴의 책 이미지를 클릭하시면 어떤 곡인지 확인하실 수 있습니다! 유튜브 채널에는 있는데 목록에 없는 곡은 악보를 제작하지 않는 곡이에요. 오래된 영상의 연주는 악보 제작을 고려하지 않고 단지 다른 사람에게 연주를 들려주는 게 목적이었던지라 악보가 없습니다. 제게도 남아있는 자료가 없어서 이미 지나간 곡들은 앞으로도 악보를 제작하지 못할 것 같아요. 앞으로 업로드 하는 곡은 저작권 문제가 없는 한 악보를 만들어 볼 생각이니 틈틈이 SHEETS 메뉴를 체크해주세요.

 

Q. Where can I find the sheet music?

For sheet music, please check the SHEETS section of my homepage. Due to copyright issues, some songs are only available in the books. You can check them out if you click on the image of the books. I don’t have any plans for making sheet music for songs from my old videos, but I’m planning to have the sheet music available for most of the songs (those without any copyright problems) being uploaded from now on, so please keep an eye out for updates.

 

 

Q. 연주를 사용해도 되나요?

A. MR 혹은 글의 배경음악, 공모전이나 학교 과제 등으로 연주를 사용해도 되냐고 여쭤보시는 분들이 많습니다. 저는 커버 연주를 한 사람이고 원작자가 아니기 때문에 제가 함부로 명확하게 답을 드릴 수 있는 부분이 아닌 것 같아요. 연주한 입장에서만 답변을 드리자면 링크를 포함한 출처를 표기해주시면 사용하셔도 괜찮습니다. 가급적 Content ID 시스템하에 있는 유튜브 내에서만 사용을 권하며 공유 기능을 이용해주세요. 저작권은 원작자분에게 있는 점 꼭 염두에 두시고 주의해서 사용하셨으면 좋겠습니다.

 

Q. Can I use your covers?

A. I often get asked for permission to use my covers as background music/instrumentals for various purposes. But since I’m only doing covers, I don’t think I’m in the right position to answer this with great confidence just by my own. So to speak only for the covers, you are free to use and share my music as long as the source is cited with a link. I recommend that you use it only within YouTube under the Content ID system and please do take advantage of the built-in sharing functions. Again, keep in mind that copyright belongs to the original artist.

 

 

Q. 피아노 전공하셨나요?  어떻게 유튜브를 시작하게 되셨나요?

A. 학부 전공은 공학이에요. 피아노는 대부분의 경우처럼 초등학교 때 그만뒀습니다. 조금 다른 점이 있다면 예중 입시 준비 중에 그만둔 덕에 악보를 편하게 읽을 수 있었고 난이도가 아주 높은 곡만 아니라면 어떻게든 연주가 가능한 상태였어요. (감사해요. 부모님!) 악보를 보다 보면 ‘나라면 여기는 이렇게 칠텐데’라는 생각이 들 때가 많았는데 제 마음대로 이렇게 저렇게 바꿔서 치다보니 피아노가 점점 재밌어지더라고요. 남들에게도 이걸 들려주고 싶은데 가족들이나 친구들 앞에서 연주하는건 긴장되고 부끄럽고… 녹음을 하면 나 혼자 연주해서 많은 사람에게 들려줄 수 있겠다 싶어 노트북으로 제 연주를 녹음해서 여러 커뮤니티에 올린 게 시작이었습니다. 하나둘 올리다 보니 업로드 용량이나 시간제한이 없는 플랫폼을 찾아 유튜브에 정착했고, 그렇게 시간이 흘러 자연스레 유튜버가 되었네요. 세상의 수많은 멋진 연주 중에 특별히 제 연주를 아끼고 사랑해주신 분들께 진심으로 감사하다고 말씀드리고 싶어요.

 

Q. Did you major in piano/music? How did you become a YouTuber?

I was an engineering major in college. Like most cases, my piano lessons only lasted until elementary school but one small advantage I had was that I used to prepare for arts middle school. I was already able to read sheet music pretty comfortably and play most songs with a bit of a practice. (Huge thanks to my parents!) Sometimes, when reading sheet music, I would have my own ideas on how I would play them. By arranging some songs my way, I found myself starting to enjoy playing piano again. I wanted to share my way of playing the piece but I felt too nervous, even embarrassed, just by imagining playing the piano in front of people. But then I figured, if I record on my own and share it with everybody, I might have the slightest chance to have the best of both worlds. So, that was the start. As I was looking for a platform without limits on video size or length, I ended up choosing YouTube and here I am, a YouTuber. I want to thank every one of you for showing love for my piano covers while there is a whole ocean of talented people out there in the world.
